or hospitals, of Venice ultimately transformed themselves from helping
handicapped and orphaned girls through the power of music into centers
of music where only females were permitted to perform.
like Vivaldi, Hasse, Lotti, and Galuppi,
to name a few, worked at various ospedali in Venice and wrote music
specifically for the young girls and women to perform. As part of
the Berkeley Early Music Festival Fringe Concert series, we will perform this music with women’s
voices and Baroque orchestra.
